Retreat begins July 31st, and runs through August 5th, 2016!

Considered a hidden gem of the Bay Area, family owned Westerbeke Ranch has served as a place of rest, relaxation, and self-discovery for over 50 years. Now Nicholas Wilton invites you to experience the rustic beauty of Sonoma Valley with a 6-day, 5-night painting workshop.

Using the Six Art2LIfe principles of value, color, design, texture, risk, and soul, workshop participants will embark on a creative journey that embraces personal intuition and choice. Together we will learn how to craft compositionally strong work that is an authentic, unique expression of yourself.

“Nicholas creates a supportive and informed environment to explore, develop and evolve your creativity. A warning is in order: be prepared to find the ‘take-aways’ spilling into your day-to-day and art-making long after the workshop ends – the experience is just that wonderful.”

– Georgia Gibbs, attended February 2015 Westerbeke Ranch Art2Life Workshop

Ample time will be dedicated to in class demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, as this creates a fertile environment for art making. We will also investigate the concepts of change and improvisation, working on many pieces simultaneously, allowing ourselves to work boldly and without fear of failure. Generous time will be given for experimentation with new tools, mediums, and techniques, collectively learning how to step out of our comfort zones; it is in this space, after all, where the best art is often made. Using this process as a backdrop, there will also be discussion on developing and sustaining your own creative practice, particularly in the face of our modern, fast-moving world.

Westerbeke Ranch offers shared accommodations in five charming and comfortably furnished redwood cabins. Be certain to take a look at them here. Delightful paths lead to the cabins, which are nestled in the gardens above the pool area. Also expect to take a dip in the pool or hot tub, or just simply relax with a massage. There are also stunning hiking trails, plenty of sun lit and shaded benches to relax on, ambrosial gardens, and of course some of the most delicious authentic homemade cuisine available in the Bay Area, made with the best locally sourced ingredients.

“I attended the Art2Life workshop at Westerbeke Ranch in Sonoma, California. I loved seeing the initial range of artistic levels in the room and by the end of the workshop seeing the artwork that was created. It is truly amazing. For me personally, these workshops are not only about art instruction, but they serve to connect and synergize like-minded individuals who enjoy sharing their knowledge, techniques, ideas, and resources.”

This workshop is designed to accommodate people from a wide variety of disciplines, and all skill levels are welcome. Whether you already have an established artistic practice or are just starting out on your creative journey, this workshop is for you. No prior artistic experience is necessary, only a willingness to play. So come join us as we celebrate a process of inspiration, reclamation, and the journey of self-discovery through painting.

“Over the course of the workshop, Nicolas Wilton takes his time to explain his six principles of art, demonstrates these principles and provides you with many tools, creative processes and techniques you can use in your work. Additionally, he works with each person one on one. Westerbeke Ranch was also an amazing setting for this workshop and the food was incredible. ”
